2018

[January 20, 2018]: The workshop on "Implementation and Monitoring the Sustainable Development Goals in the Caribbean: The Role of the Ocean" took place on January 17-19, 2018 in Saint Vincent. It brought together 42 participants from 17 countries, representing a wide range of stakeholders in governments and government agencies, regional and global intergovernmental organizations including United Nations agencies, business, non-governmental organizations, and academia. [2016/12/10] 5th GSTS Workshop: The 5th GEOSS Science and Technology Stakeholder Workshop focused on “Linking the Sustainable Development Goals to Earth Observations, Models and Capacity Building.” The workshop took place on December 9-10, 2016, in Berkeley, California, USA. [March 27, 2015] 3rd and 4th GEOSS S&T Stakeholder Workshops took place in Norfolk, Va: The 3rd and 4th GEOSS S&T Stakeholder Workshops took place on March 22-24, 2015 and March 24-26, 2015 respectively, in Norfolk, VA, USA. The 3rd Workshop focused on the science and quantification of sustainability indicators, while the 4th workshop considered future technological developments and changes in how users access and use information, and what possible impacts this could have on the design and functionality of the future GEOSS. [February 10, 2014] 3rd and 4th GEOSS S&T Stakeholder Workshops to take place in 2014: The 3rd and 4th GEOSS S&T Stakeholder Workshops will take place on Spetember 8-10, 2014 and September 10-12, 2014 respectively, in Norfolk, VA, USA. [January 17, 2014] User needs are a focus of Post-2015 GEO: The Ministerial Summit held in Geneva today provided guidance to GEO for the next decade. One of the five key focus areas of activity is to “Develop a comprehensive interdisciplinary knowledge base defining and documenting observations needed for all disciplines and facilitate availability and accessibility of these observations to user communities.” It is expected that the GEOSS User Requirement Registry will play a key role for this activity.


2013

[November 15, 2013] URR available through the GSTSS: The GEOSS User Requirement Registry is now available through the GSTSS. The URR is currently hosted at Old Dominion University. A completely reprogrammed version, URR-2.0, will become available in 2014 as open source utility. Moreover, URR-2.0 will use a redesigned data model that is far more versatile and facilitates new functionality of the URR-2.0. To access the current URR, go to the User Needs Page of the GSTSS ...


2012

[September 26, 2012] GSTSS presented at ICHMET 2012 in Rome, Italy: The GSTSS was presented during a session on interoperability at the 16th International Conference on Heavy Metals in the Environment (ICHMET 2012), which took place in Rome, Italy on October 24-27, 2012. An extended abstract is included in the Conference Proceedings. The presentation was well received and stimulated a supporting discussion.

[August 31, 2012] A productive 2nd GEOSS Stakeholder Workshop took place: More than 80 representatives of more than 20 international science organizations, United Nations agencies, government agencies, and funding agencies participated in a productive GEOSS S&T Stakeholder Workshop held on August 28-31, 2012 in Bonn Germany. The Workshop reviewed the alignment of GEOSS to the needs of global sustainability research and the agreed-upon goals for sustainable development.
