Mitigation of Plastic Flows in Economy and into the Environment

Recycling

The Top 20 Home Recycling Tips are helpful for the thre 'Rs of managing waste", i.e., Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, although a stronger focus on the first two Rs would have been more helpful.

A good overview of the challenged posed by electronic waste is provided by The Complete Guide to Electronic Waste Recycling.

The world’s recycling system is in crisis. At the end of 2017, China abruptly shut its doors to imports of recycled material, citing environmental concerns. That, write Leslie Hook and John Reed in an article in the Financial Times (paywall), has led to unprecedented disruption in a global industry and thrown the very purpose of recycling into question.

Reducing and Collecting Marine Litter

The GGGI Annual Report 2019 is now available. GGGI stands for the Global Ghost Gear Initiative. GGGI states about the report: “2019 was a critical year for the GGGI: from adding 16 new member organizations and two governments, to hosting a series of capacity building workshops across the world with FAO, there was a lot to be excited about as we entered into 2020. Take a look to see our accomplishments from last year and celebrate the achievements that our partners and members have helped to build to address the problem of lost and abandoned fishing gear around the world.

Sami Grover informs that the shipping industry cracks down on plastic waste. Read the article published on November 2, 2018 in treehugger.

The Twitter Moment available here focuses on the “Waste eating shark” which is also discussed in this announcement published by V. Nene on November 2, 2018.
